With relation to the avian influenza alert worldwide, ECDC ensured field missions in Romania (Oct ’05), Turkey and Iraq (Jan ’06) and in the Northern part of Cyprus not under the effective control of the Republic of Cyprus (Feb ’06), supporting the local health authorities and the World Health Organization in their response to this health threat.In het kader van het wereldwijde alarm voor aviaire influenza (vogelgriep) heeft het ECDC veldmissies ondernomen in Roemenië (oktober 2005), Turkije en Irak (januari 2006) en het noordelijke deel van Cyprus dat niet onder het bestuur van de Cypriotische Republiek valt (februari 2006). Daarbij werden de lokale gezondheidsautoriteiten en de WHO ondersteund in hun reactie op deze gezondheidsbedreiging.
ECDC will work closely with the 27 EU Member States, but also with the EEA/EFTA countries (Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein), candidate countries (Croatia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Turkey) and potential candidate countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, and Kosovo under UN Security Council Resolution 1244).Het ECDC werkt nauw samen met de 27 EU-lidstaten, maar ook met de EER/EVA-landen (Noorwegen, IJsland en Liechtenstein), kandidaat-lidstaten (Kroatië, voormalige Joegoslavische Republiek Macedonië en Turkije) en potentiële kandidaat-lidstaten (Albanië, Bosnië en Herzegovina, Servië en Montenegro, en Kosovo krachtens Resolutie 1244 van de Veiligheidsraad van de Verenigde Naties).
